NeuroQuant®

NeuroQuant® Analysis at South Jersey Radiology

NeuroQuant® is advanced post-processing software designed to help your doctor measure and track changes in brain structure with greater accuracy. This software works along with MRI imaging to create additional views of the brain, assign quantified measurements, and compare to age-matched norms across a database in real-time. This helps your doctor spot early signs of neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or other conditions affecting the brain. Coupling clear, easy-to-understand visuals with quantitative data, NeuroQuant® gives both you and your doctor valuable insight into your health.

How does it work

NeuroQuant® works by analyzing images after a brain MRI. The software processes the images and measures the size and shape of key brain regions, including the hippocampus, ventricles and amygdala. Then, it compares your brain’s measurements to a database of healthy individuals your same age and sex. This comparison helps doctors identify whether brain volume is shrinking or changing more than expected, allowing them to monitor for early signs of neurological conditions.

What to expect during your NeuroQuant®

Getting a NeuroQuant® analysis is simple and stress free. You’ll start with an MRI of your brain on either a wide-bore or traditional scanner. There are no extra steps for the MRI to support the analysis as it is conducted after your scan is complete. Brain MRIs are non-invasive and typically take about 15 – 60 minutes to complete.

During the scan, you’ll lie on a cushioned table and stay as still as possible while the MRI captures detailed images of your brain. Our team will guide you through the process and ensure you’re comfortable from start to finish. Once your scan is complete, the NeuroQuant® software automatically analyzes the images and generates a secondary report for your doctor alongside the standard report developed by one of our board-certified radiologists.

Understanding Your Results

After your MRI is analyzed with NeuroQuant®, your doctor will receive a detailed report showing the size and shape of key areas of your brain. The report includes easy-to-read visuals that compare your brain’s measurements to what’s typical for your age group and sex.

Your doctor will walk you through the findings, explain what they mean, and answer any questions you have. In some cases, the results may confirm everything looks normal and serve as a baseline for future studies. In others, they may highlight changes that need further attention or help track how a known condition is progressing.

No matter the result, the goal is to give you and your doctor clear insight and more confidence in your next steps toward better health

NeuroQuant® Frequently Asked Questions

What is NeuroQuant®?

NeuroQuant® is an advanced post-processing software that analyzes brain MRI images to measure and track the size of important brain regions. It helps doctor detect changes that may be linked to neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or brain injuries.

How does it work?

After your brain MRI is completed, NeuroQuant® software analyzes the images to measure the volume in areas of your brain, including the hippocampus, ventricles, and amygdala. It then compares your brain’s structure to a real-time database of healthy individuals your age and sex, helping doctors identify subtle changes that may not be visible with a brain MRI alone.

Is NeuroQuant® a seperate test from my MRI?

No, it is simply an added analysis of the MRI images you already have.

How long does the scan take?

The brain MRI usually takes 15 – 60 minutes. The NeuroQuant® analysis happens after your appointment is complete and does not affect how long you’re in the scanner.

Will I feel anything during the scan?

No, the MRI is non-invasive and painless. In some cases, your brain MRI may be ordered with contrast, a dye material injected intravenously prior to your scan to enhance the clarity of your results.

What happens after the scan?

One of our board-certified radiologists will review your MRI images and develop a report alongside the NeuroQuant® quantitative analysis. The reports will be shared with your doctor who will then explain the results to you and discuss any next steps.

Who can benefit from NeuroQuant®?

Your doctor may recommend NeuroQuant® if you’re experiencing memory issues, cognitive changes, or other symptoms that could point to a neurological condition. It’s often used when there’s a concern about:

• Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia
• Multiple sclerosis
• Traumatic brain injury
• Seizures or epilepsy
• Long term effects of chronic conditions

Is NeuroQuant® covered by insurance?

Insurance coverage for NeuroQuant® varies depending on your provider. Certain providers may cite standard brain MRI results offer enough details to make a clinically decision on a diagnosis or treatment. It is important to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage.
